Jake Hill Dominates at Thruxton, Climbs to Second in BTCC Standings
Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport celebrated another triumphant weekend in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship as Jake Hill took two victories and a fifth-place finish, rocketing him to second in the Drivers' Championship.
Arriving for the fourth race meet of the season at Thruxton, the team aimed to maintain their winning momentum from Snetterton, where Hill snagged pole position and two wins. Thruxton, the fastest circuit in the UK, saw Hill and his team quickly up to speed, finishing first in the opening practice and sixth in the second session.
In qualifying, Jake excelled through the new-for-2024 format, securing a third-place start in the 'Quick Six' round, marking his third top-four qualifying of the season.
Race 1:
Starting from the second row, Hill swiftly overtook Cammish and Ingram to lead the race. Despite a safety car wiping out his two-second lead, Hill managed the restart flawlessly and held on to claim victory, his third of the season, along with the fastest lap and a pole position for Race 2.
Race 2:
Hill led from the start under intense pressure, maintaining his position until halfway through the race when Tom Ingram, utilizing hybrid advantage, overtook him. Post-race, Ingram received a penalty, handing Hill his fourth win of the season, solidifying his status as the most successful driver so far this year.
Race 3:
Starting eighth due to the reverse grid draw, Hill made a strong start but got boxed in. Despite this, and with several great on-track battles, he battled through the field to finish fifth, capping off a sensational day at Thruxton.
Collecting 54 points, Hill now sits second in the Drivers' Championship, just five points behind the leader, as the series heads to Oulton Park for round five on June 22-23.
