Donington: Chloe Grant Battles the Elements in Penultimate GB4 Weekend
The weekend of September 7-8 at Donington Park marked the penultimate round of the 2024 GB4 Championship for Chloe Grant, with Friday testing kicking off her return after a five-week break from the car. Although away from the track, she remained sharp by training extensively on her home simulator and working with coach, Tom Mills, to prepare for this crucial stage of the season.
Friday’s testing was all about making up for lost time, fine-tuning the car with her KMR Sport team after missing prior test days. But Chloe quickly found her rhythm, setting the foundation for a dramatic weekend.
Saturday kicked off with wet, tricky conditions, but Chloe kept her cool, qualifying P8 for the first two races and P5 for race three, setting herself up for a high-stakes weekend. In Race 1, a drying track with damp patches made overtaking tough. Starting on slicks, Chloe launched into P7 but got caught out by rain reappearing at Coppice Corner. Dropping a wheel into the gravel, she managed to recover, grabbing P10 and critical championship points.
Sunday’s Race 2 was a battle of patience. With wet conditions and a drying track, Chloe held her ground in P8 before slipping to P9 on the final lap. Despite the drop, she showed impressive racecraft in challenging weather.
The final race saw her start P5, but an early box-in at turn one put her on the back foot. Still, she fought tooth and nail, engaging in fierce wheel-to-wheel battles to hold her position, crossing the line in P5—a solid finish to close out the weekend.
In a bright spot, Chloe and KMR Sport clinched their third consecutive Teams' Championship in GB4, a remarkable achievement. Chloe extends her gratitude to her team, sponsors, and supporters, and is ready to push for more as the season heads to its finale.
