Chloe Grant: F1 Academy — Barcelona

Chloe Grant remains 9th in F1 Academy championship standing as she achieves another two top-seven finishes in the latest event at the Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya.

Following the latest races in Spain last weekend (20-21 May), the 17-year-old Ecurie Ecosse “driver” achieved 7th place twice plus an 11th at the Barcelona circuit at the wheel of her ART Grand Prix single-seater.

Having struggled in qualifying, Chloe battled hard in the three closely-contested races and set competitive and consistent lap times. Chloe commented: “It wasn’t a bad weekend but it could have been better. I struggled a little in qualifying.

“I had good pace in Race 1 enabling me to go from P10 to finish P7 and was actually setting the quickest lap times in the final laps of the race.

“I made a really good start from P10 again in Race 2 and was up to seventh by the second corner on the opening lap with good, consistent pace throughout the race.

“Race 3 was hard work on ‘old’ tyres, starting twelfth and coming home eleventh, losing time due to lack of grip especially in the faster corners. I’m looking forward to clocking up more valuable mileage in testing at MotorLand – the more time in the car can only be of benefit to me.”

Chloe Grant heads to Zandvoort in the Netherlands next month for the next rounds in the F1 Academy championship (23-25 June). Prior to the Zandvoort event Chloe, who is now a Motorsport UK “Girls on Track” Ambassador, will test at MotorLand Aragón in Spain.

Before leaving home for Spain, Chloe was invited to drive an Extreme E series Spark Odyssey 21 at Glenmuckloch in Dumfries and Galloway. Grant drove the electric SUV car with Sir Chris Hoy in the passenger seat. Chloe loved the experience: “Last Friday I was lucky enough to be invited to Extreme E’s 2nd round in my homeland and drive the Odyssey alongside Chris Hoy!

“It was an incredible experience, and I now have the bug for off-roading — it was SO much fun! It was a pleasure and an honour to work with Sir Chris Hoy. You can be my wingman anytime! A huge thank you to Extreme E for this awesome opportunity. I wish I could do it a thousand times over!”

Meanwhile, British multinational optical retail chain, Specsavers, and Scotland-based Island Leisure Lodges, have joined Laser Tools, John Clark Motor Group, Kevin Cuthbert PT and Fierce Racing in supporting Chloe Grant this season.
