Aiden Moffat announces the Laser Tools Racing BTCC 2018 campaign

Scottish racer Aiden Moffat announced this morning that he will contest the 2018 British Touring Car Championship, again in partnership with Laser Tools Racing.

“Touring cars is where we’re going to stay,” said Aiden. “It’s a fantastic championship and as a team we’re constantly improving.

“We’ve also improved our Mercedes a lot over the 2017 season and we’ve got a lot of development planned before the 2018 season starts. We’ve particularly been looking at the car’s aerodynamics and we’ve made some fairly minor but still quite significant bodywork modifications for the new season."

“Saying that, at the closing rounds at Brands the car felt very good indeed; I had great pace and I could place it wherever I wanted. I am very confident in the car and feel that we are in a great position for going into the 2018 season.”

2017 was Aiden's breakthrough year, as he recorded his first BTCC win at Donington early in the season. He had consistent top-ten finishes throughout the season and celebrated another win at the season finale at Brands Hatch. It was also his fourth season under the Laser Tools Racing banner and his third season with the ultra competitive Mercedes-Benz A-Class.

Laser Tools Racing was formed at the beginning of 2014 initially to contest the British Touring Car Championship with Aiden Moffat. Aiden had made his BTCC debut the year before when he was the youngest ever competitor in the championship’s history. With Laser Tools Racing Aiden’s career has gone from strength to strength and he scored two victories plus additional podiums in the 2017 season.

As Aiden prepares to enter his fifth full BTCC season, the 21 year old reflected on the championship: “I’ve really enjoyed my time in the BTCC so far and the second win at the end of last season was just reward for everyone involved. And the BTCC is unique — there’s no other championship in the world that’s as closely contested and every success is a terrific achievement for all of the team.

“Laser Tools Racing fully appreciates that our partners have committed again for next year, and this puts us in a very strong position. So for their continued support I would personally like to thank Laser Tools, A1 Automotive Ltd, A1 Automotive Race and Restoration, Car Shop, PPG, Smart Fleet Solutions, Enjoy Car Life, Transporter Engineering, Colin A Renton Transporter Maintenance, Spence Insurance, Johnston Rigging Fife, AST Signs, Secure Airparks, Autosmart, RCIB Insurance, CarCave Scotland, MV Commercial, 11 Degrees, SEVENFRIDAY, Loch Ness Water, Pentland Powder Coating and as pro engineering limited.”
